Summary: Jake and Rebecca - Another part of my dare!
Keywords: Jake and Rebecca - do teenagers know the meaning of love?
X-Newsreader: NN version 6.5.0 #3 (NOV)
Okay here's something sle you can call "crap" if you want.
It's a DS9 story - sort of. It's set on the station. It's about (so far)
Jake Sisko and a new girl who moves there with her dad.
I've only completed part 1 so far. Any suggestions for continuing it?
=========================It starts after this!==========================
Rebecca was nervous. She was going to Deep Space Nine with her
father. He had been assigned there, and she had no choice but to
go with him. Her mother had left when Rebecca was two, and her
father had been forced to juggle a career as a Starfleet security
officer and raising a boisterous little girl by himself.
As the shuttle docked, Rebecca reached out with her mid to see
if there were any children her own age. Being Betazoid had its
advantages. She could only sense three minds even close to her
own age. She was fifteen, and very tall for her age. This usually
made her anti-social. She looked a lot like a boy, and behaved
like one too. This often led to her becoming 'just good friends'
with any males she came into contact with. This could have
advantages, but in Rebecca's mind the disadvantages far
outweighed any possible advantages there might be.
*****
Commander Benjamin Sisko watched as his new security officer
disembarked. Following him came a pretty girl. She looked rather
boyish and was unusually tall. She was wearing a shorts and shirt
set that accentuated her slim figure. Her hair was cut in a bowl
cut, and was blond on the longer bits, but brown underneath. She
was taller than Sisko - but only slightly. She was the spitting
image of her father.
"I'm Commander Benjamin Sisko," he introduced himself to the new
officer.
"I'm Lieutenant Arnold Jefferies, and this is my daughter
Rebecca," came the reply as they shook hands.
"This is my security chief Constable Odo Nerys, you'll be serving
under him. Right now though, I'll escort you to your quarters.
You'll both be required to undergo a full medical examination in
about a half hour."
As Commander Sisko escorted them to their quarters, he noticed
that they didn't seem to be speaking much, but that Lieutenant
Jefferies seemed to be giving Rebecca the sorts of looks one
might give a cheeky or insolent child. Then he remembered, _Of
course!_ he thought, _they're Betazoid. No wonder they're not
speaking._
They arrived at their quarters and he showed them in. He then
explained the way to medical, and exited to return to his duties.
*****
"You're an extremely fit young lady," Doctor Bashir said to
Rebecca. "Do you do lots of exercise?"
"I used to play on a basketball team when we still lived on the
Enterprise," she said sulkily.
"Basketball eh? Well we don't have a team here, but I'm sure you
could organise one. There's not much for people your age to do,
so I'm sure the response would be good. I see from your records
that you're an asthmatic. That doesn't effect your basketball?"
"I haven't had an attack for two months now. I had to take up
swimming to help me get better. I guess I won't be doing much
swimming here."
"On the contrary. You can still swim, just not on the station.
Shuttles go down every morning carrying people who wish to go to
Bajor. I don't see any reason why you can't go down on one and
swim down there. It _is_ extremely good for your asthma. I'll try
and arrange it for you."
_Say thank-you,_ came the prompting from her father. Out loud he
said "Thank-you so much Doctor," and poked Rebecca in the back.
"Thank-you Doctor," Rebecca mumbled. "Am I finished here yet?
Only I wanted to go and take a look around."
"Yes. I have a few things I need to discuss with your father but
you can go."
_Stay out of trouble,_ came the advice from her father.
*****
Jake Sisko was walking along the Promenade with Nog. They were
both bored, and each was busily trying to think of things to do.
Neither of them was paying attention where they were walking.
Rebecca was walking the opposite direction - also not watching
where she was going. She collided with Jake, who fell over.
"Sorry," she mumbled and kept on walking.
"See ya later Nog," Jake whispered to his pal. "I need to have
a talk with her. Wait a minute," he called to Rebecca, running
to catch up. "Are you the new Leiutenant's daughter?"
"Yeah. What of it?" Rebecca was in no mood to talk.
"Well I'm Jake Sisko - Commanding Officer's kid. Pleased to meet
you." He put out his hand, and surprisingly Rebecca shook it.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Rebecca Jefferies - official new kid on
the station." She smiled at him grateful at his friendliness, and
he returned her smile.
"Nice to meet you too. So you just arrived here today?"
"Yes, but how did you know?"
"I listen in on conversations when I shouldn't. So, are you going
to be going to school with us?"
"There's a school on this place? _Great_. Oh well as soon as my
dad finds out then yes I will be. But beware, I'm a child prodigy
and I've only got three months to go before I complete the
entrance exam for the academy."
"If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" Jake was bursting
to know.
"I'm going to be fifteen in three months. They won't let you take
the entrance exam until you're at least fifteen. I could have
taken it three years ago, but they wouldn't let me. I don't
really do proper schoolwork, I just help out at school."
"Great! Mrs O'Brien will be pleased to have some help. We're kind
of a handful. So what are you doing now?"
"Oh just wandering around. Getting the feel of the place."
"I could show you around," Jake said hopefully. "I mean if you
want me to."
Rebecca looked right into his mind and saw what all this was
leading up to, but said "Yeah sure. Anywhere in particular I
should see?"
"No, there's not that many places kids are allowed to go here.
This is the Promenade. That's about it really. Wanna come over
to my quarters? I could show you what we're doing in class right
now. I need some help with my science project, and you're in the
best position to give it to me."
"Will your dad be there?" Rebecca knew the answer even before she
asked the question.
"No. He's on duty for another four hours. It'll be okay. I won't
try any moves on you if you don't want me to." He smiled.
Rebecca smiled back. "Yeah. Okay. I'd better tell my dad first
though. He's still up at sickbay talking to Doctor Bashir.
Besides, he wants to meet you."
*****
"Gosh your dad can really talk! I don't mean that in a bad way
either, but he asks so many questions. I thought we'd never get
away."
"Yes I know. He does it on purpose. He thinks if a guy can last
through all his questions and still be interested in me, then
he's a pretty special guy." Jake turned red.
"Who said I was interested in you?"
"You didn't have to. We could both read it in your mind. Now, did
you really want me to help you with your science project, or did
you just want me to come here with you so that you could kiss me
where no-one would see you and tell your dad?"
"I really wanted help with my project," Jake said unconvincingly.
"You can't even convince yourself of that, so how do you expect
to fool me?" Rebecca sat on the bed next to him. Jake looked very
nervous. "Come on. We both know you want to," Rebecca said, but
Jake just looked even more nervous. "Okay if you won't...."
Rebecca said and leaned over and kissed him full on the lips. Not
a passionate open mouth kiss, but a gentle kiss that made Jake's
face turn red.
"I think I'd better go now," Rebecca said. "See you tomorrow in
class?"
It was all Jake could do to nod in reply.
END OF PART ONE
====================Finishes here: for now================================
Enjoying a long hot summer,
Dayna.
